The exhibition

People have always had a primeval need to seek out the feeling of intoxication. Even children sometimes enter an intoxicating state when they are playing. Later in life, people seek out this feeling by testing their courage and with sport, music and dance, with love, spirituality, art or by consuming psychoactive substances. Experiencing intoxication is particularly exciting for young people but dealing with risks or seductive tobacco or alcohol advertising is a huge challenge.

What exactly is intoxication? Why do we seek out ecstatic feelings and what do we find fascinating about this? The exhibition is dedicated to studying the phenomenon of “intoxication” and its effects. Visitors will go on a multimedia journey through the historic background, as well as the possibilities and risks of intoxication. The central question is why our society has such a contradictory way of dealing with this phenomenon.
